Perhaps the best example of Coach Kevin O'Neill's ability to identify and develop basketball talent. McCaskill played in just six games as a junior at Westchester St. Joseph's and his best game during his senior season was a 13-point effort.

Amal averaged 7.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and 1.6 bpg, while shooting 55 percent (328-602 FGs), during the course of his college career. He led the team in rebounding during the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons. He finished his collegiate career second on Marquette's all-time blocked shot list (175 blks), fourth in career field goal percentage and 11th in rebounds (770).

As a senior he averaged 10.3 ppg and 8.9 rpg, while shooting 55 percent from the floor. He was named a 1995-96 All-Conference USA Second Team Selection as a senior and ranked in the top five in the league in rebounding, field goal percentage and blocked shots. Amal had 17 double-figure scoring games as a senior (career and season-high 19 points vs. Memphis) and 11 double-digit rebounding games (career and season-high 19 rebound vs. Wisconsin-Milwaukee). As a junior, he averaged 10.7 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 2.3 bpg. As a sophomore, he averaged 5.2 ppg and 3.3 rpg, in helping Marquette advance to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. He Redshirted in 1992-93 and saw action in 15 games as a true freshman in 1991-92.

Amal Omari McCaskill was selected by the Orlando Magic in the 2nd round (49th overall) of the 1996 NBA Draft. He played in 4 NBA seasons, with the Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks, and Philadelphia 76ers. In his NBA career, McCaskill played in 114 games and scored a total of 204 points.

• June 26, 1996 - Selected as the 49th pick in the NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic. Officially signed on September 16.

• 1996 - Was also drafted as the 27th overall pick by the Florida Beachdogs in the CBA Draft. Also, was drafted as the 48th pick of the second draft day by the Atlantic City Seagulls.

• 2003-04 - With the 76ers, McCaskill would see the most action of his career. Of the 59 games in which he saw action, he was named a starter for three of them. His highest career totals would come from this year: 113 points, 133 total rebounds, 20 blocks, 20 assists, and 12 steals.

• August 8, 2004 - Traded along with Derrick Coleman by the Philadelphia 76ers to the Detroit Pistons for Corliss Williamson and cash.

• October 2004 - Waived by the Detroit Pistons.

• November 2004 - Signed with Climamio Bologna with the Italian League.

• December 2004 - Tested positive for steroids while with Climamio Bologna. Already released by the team, he was suspended for six months by a Euroleague judge on January 14.

• Late 2004-05 - Signed with Sagesse-Al Hekmeh of the Lebanese League.

• September 30, 2005 - Signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Clippers.

• Appeared as himself in the documentary Hoop Dreams, a movie about MU recruit William Gates and fellow Chicago high schooler Arthur Agee. McCaskill was a teammate of Gates at St. Joseph's in Westchester, IL.

• During the 2002-03 season, played with ex-MU teammate Chris Crawford with the Atlanta Hawks.

• Wore #00 while at Marquette as well as most of his NBA career. Wore #23 with the Los Angeles Clippers.

• Only appeared in the Playoffs once: 1996-97 NBA playoffs as his Orlando Magic bowed out to the Miami Heat, 3-2. He appeared in two games playing only 7 minutes and averaging 2.5 ppg and 1.5 rpg.
