Carbins led Marquette in rebounding during Al McGuire's first two seasons a coach, 1964-65 (11.7 rpg) and 1965-66 (11.4 rpg).  He averaged 7.7 ppg and 10.5 ppg, respectively, in those two seasons.  As a senior, Carbins averaged 7.1 points per game during the 1966-67 season.
