-===== Golden Eagles Down Milwaukee, 71-51 =====+
 +===== Sloppy But Satisfying  =====

-MILWAUKEE - [[Jimmy Butler]] made all six of his shots and had game-high 19 points to lead Marquette to a 71-51 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Tuesday night.+MILWAUKEE - Like the weather outside, this one was ugly.
 +
 +But after losing their previous two games in disappointing fashion, the Marquette Golden Eagles certainly weren't unhappy with the outcome. Sparked by 19 points from [[Jimmy Butler]] and a defensive effort that netted 20 turnovers, they dispatched the UW-Milwaukee Panthers, 71-51, in front of a smallish Bradley Center crowd on a snowy Tuesday night.
 +
 +Coming off their home loss Saturday to North Carolina State, when they allowed the Wolfpack to shoot 71.4% over the final 20 minutes, this time the Golden Eagles were able to get the Panthers off-balance long enough early on to build a double-digit lead, and then maintained it most of the rest of the way.
 +
 +"I thought we were much better," MU coach [[Buzz Williams]] said. "I thought we got back to doing the things that we need to do on both ends of the floor."
 +
 +MU (7-2), which ran its record to 37-0 against its intra-city Division I foe, also got 15 points off the bench from [[Darius Johnson-Odom]] and 13 from [[Lazar Hayward]].
 +
 +UWM (6-4), which won the rebounding battle, 28-26, was led by Anthony Hill's 10 points.
 +
 +MU was leading, 37-26, a little over 3 minutes into the second half when foul trouble began to become an issue. Hayward, who was held to just four points in the first half, was whistled for his third personal on a charge and sent to the bench with 16 minutes 28 seconds remaining. A little more than minute later, freshman [[Jeronne Maymon]], back after a one-game absence because of a hip pointer, picked up his fourth, and the Golden Eagles were forced to go even smaller.
 +
 +The Panthers weren't able to take advantage, however, managing to get as close as 37-28 with 14:57 left. Soon, MU stretched its lead back to 14 and kept comfortable distance the rest of the way.
 +
 +The Golden Eagles wound up shooting 52.2% both in the second half and for the game, and went 14 for 15 from the free-throw line (93.3%) in the second half. They also won despite grabbing just one of their 26 rebounds on the offensive end.
 +
 +Not helping UWM was a nearly silent night from leading scorer and rebounder James Eayrs, who was held to just two points and one board in 22 minutes.

-The Golden Eagles (7-2) improved to 37-0 all-time against their in-town rivalsThe winning streak is the second-longest active by any program against the same opponent and ranks eighth all-time.+"It was going to be difficult for him tonight, when you have Jimmy Butler and Lazar and those guys really getting into him and not giving him the space," UWM coach Rob Jeter said"Of course they're going to fight him in the post, and push and body him in the post. Being an inch taller and maybe 100 pounds more, it's still tough to shoot when you're chest-up like Marquette does."

-Milwaukee (6-4) got more points from its bench than its starters, and reserve Anthony Hill had team-high 10 points.+Butler scored nine of the Golden Eagles' first 16 points for a 16-9 lead with 11:11 remaining in the first half. But they went cold after thatmissing six straight shots and a pair of free throws before a free-throw jumper by Maymon ended a scoreless span of nearly 6 minutes.

-Butler had 11 points in the first half and was 5 for 5 from the floor.+It also jumpstarted a 10-0 run that saw David Cubillan and Johnson-Odom knock down consecutive three-pointers and Butler slam home a dunk off a pretty behind-the-back pass from Johnson-Odom on the break to make it 26-15 with 2:43 left.

-[[Darius Johnson-Odom]] added 15 points and Lazar Hayward chipped in with 13 for Marquette, which lost its last two games, to Florida State and North Carolina State, by total of just five points.+The run eventually wound up being 14-4, and sent MU into the locker room with a 30-19 lead.

-The Panthers also had 20 turnovers and allowed Marquette to shoot 52.2 percent (24 for 46).+"We started off the game really well, and the last 10 minutes, I don't know that we had a shot at the rim maybe four, five times," said Jeter. "Turnovers got to usMarquette, for us, is a really tough matchup."

 +Williams said his focus ever since the loss to NC State was on the defensive end, helping pave the way to forcing the Panthers into 12 first-half turnovers, and 20 for the game.

 +"Particularly early in the first half we were able to string together some consecutive stops, which allows us to play at the pace that we want to play," he said.
