Marquette began recruiting Omari Lawrence upon Aki Collins joining Buzz Williams staff as an assistant coach.

November 2007: Omari is a lefty shooter with excellent defensive intensity. His long arms grab a lot of rebounds and he has a bloodhound's nose for the ball. An athletic leaper, Lawrence can be quite a showman in transition. Able to attack the basket by going left or right, this long-armed slasher has some nice up and under finishes and reverses off the glass as well as vicious throwdowns.

This young, left-handed scoring guard reminds me of a young Mike Reed. He has a knack for scoring, especially off the dribble with a solid cross-over move, and finishing in the lane. On the break he gets out and scores. He also shows the ability to hit the open 17-foot jumper. He helps his team on the glass and likes to score more points off rebounds. The way he drives the ball, he gets himself to the free throw line. As his game develops, he needs to pay attention to his passing skills. Some of his passes were stolen or deflected. As his body grows and he begins to get stronger, he will be a future scoring machine for St. Ray's.
